The bioeconomy has the potential to play a critical role in the transition from a fossil-based, non-renewable, degenerative economy. Its careful expansion could realise an economic value of $30tn by 2050, averting up to $10tn of hidden costs; bringing the earth within a safe operating space, supporting livelihoods and preserving local cultures.
Yet our current approach to harnessing a bioeconomy is degenerative, creating severe negative impacts and systemic risks.
To meet the transition needs of a growing population, scaling a bioeconomy needs to be regenerative to avoid exacerbating these negative impacts and triggering critical planetary tipping points. More importantly, the promise of a regenerative bioeconomy and food system is the potential to create long-term health and wealth for all.
Given the forces holding a degenerative model in place, a regenerative approach to the bioeconomy requires system transformation. And this requires new approaches to change.
We need to unlock capitals at scale.
To realise this transformation, we need to activate people, money, ideas, imagination, stories, technology, and collaboration towards a regenerative bioeconomy. We need to unlocking multiple forms of capital, at scale, into a regenerative bioeconomy: from human, experiential and socio-cultural, to technical, intellectual and financial.
System transformation is a creative act; it also has a production issue.
We believe that system transformation is a creative act. It requires that we prototype the future, building block by building block.
But we have a production issue. System transformation efforts don’t translate to tangible action enough, it gets stuck in dialogues and analyses. Talking about action is not taking action.
We need to harness the producer, creator, builder mindset to translate system transformation aspirations into tangible action; building new vehicles for change that prototype the future and unlock capital at scale towards a regenerative bioeconomy.
Our Model
We are a producer-operator studio collaboratively building initiatives that unlock capital to accelerate the transition to a regenerative bioeconomy and food system.
We build joint ventures with partners who hold unique insights from working at the frontier of their fields. Together, we uncover opportunity spaces with the potential to shift systems, collaboratively building initiatives that have system transformation potential and commercial viability. These can take diverse forms including products, services, platforms, funds, or cultural artefacts: what unites them is that they are user-centric, beautiful, durable, and enduring, as well as high-impact.
We play the producer-operator role, bringing the infrastructure, network, and resources needed to bring ideas to life. We connect capital, culture, knowledge, and talent to develop solutions that hit key leverage points for unlocking systemic change.
We put skin in the game, investing early, undertaking risk, and committing to long-term shared value creation across economic, ecological, social, and cultural dimensions.
